6 tips for a perfect weekend in Orini Nafpaktia

28 Nov

My tips for Orini Nafpaktia here

1. Take the ferry from Rio to Antirrio instead of using the bridge.

During the 10 minute ride you will have the chance to admire the peaceful view and the magnificent Rio Bridge. Plus, it is only half the toll price for the bridge.

2. Head to the Rafting House (15 km from Nafpaktos) and choose your favourite outdoor sport!

They offer Rafting, Kayak, Mountain Bike, Rappel, Wall Climbing, Archery, Horse Riding, Hiking, Flying Fox, ATV tours and many more depending on the season. And don’t worry if you are a newbie, experienced supervisors and trainers will be by your side at all times. Enjoy!

3. Have dinner at the Michou Farm.

Looking for a unique, authentic experience you will never forget? How would you like a salad with vegetables fetched from the garden in front of your eyes then chopped, mixed and served with extra virgin olive oil? Fondas and his farm in the woods is exactly what you need.

Fondas has travelled the world and discovered every secret corner of Greece by walking down the country with his horse and dog! He will show you around his farm, and invite you to share the food his family has cooked for the day using only fresh and delicious ingredients from their farm. After the meal you can sit in the living room by the fire and share your travel stories and life philosophy with Fondas and travellers from around the globe drinking red wine and traditional tsipouro with honey and herbs. A visit you will never forget…

4. Visit the picturesque Ano Chora and Kato Chora villages.

Start with a hot chocolate and local dessert at the Chrystal Mountain Resort and then take the hiking trail through the woods starting from the hotel and ending at Kato Chora. Depending on the weather, you may have the chance to discover the mini-waterfall or pick berries, chestnuts or mushrooms!

5. Visit the traditional Elatou village.

In Greek Elatou means “full of fir trees”, and so is this little village; hidden in the middle of a fir and pine forest, it is sure to steal your heart. Choose one of the two traditional coffee shops on the central square and try the authentic tsipouro spirit along with a local meze. After your walk and meze,  head towards the village entrance for lunch or dinner at the Elatou Guesthouse. My friend Angeliki swears by the lemonato casserole, while the caramelized pork kotsi with fries and gravy is also a must.

6. Stop for a walk and coffee at Nafpaktos.

Wander in the town streets heading towards the picturesque Venetian port and choose a café with a view. The Venetian Castle on the hill overlooking Nafpaktos is also worth visiting.

P.S.: Believe it or not, there is a statue of Miguel de Cervantes in Nafpaktos. Can you spot it?
